Cameron Texas

My free write will be about my hometown Cameron Texas. Cameron was established in 1846, the city is named after captain Ewen Cameron. It is located in Milam County and it is the country seat located on the Little River in North Central Milam County. Cameron has a population of about 5,770 people, it is about 45 miles from College Station. It is between Temple Texas and Rockdale Texas, Cameron is a small town with not much to go. If you want to go to the movies, shopping or even bowling the closest places to go is Temple or College Station. Cameron is very peaceful and friendly, its a great place to live at the community of Cameron is great, they raise money through out the year to give a every student that attends Cameron Isd a scholarship of $550. The Cameron Public school system was established in 1890, Cameron has a 4 with a total of about 1,680 students at every school. We are a small school I graduated with 86 our students. Cameron Yoe High School was named after a family named Yoe who gave land and money to build a school for the city of Cameron because they loved Cameron. The husbands was named Charles Yoe and that's why the school is names C.H Yoe. Beginning in 1921 the second Tuesday of May every school of Cameron takes off to honor the Yoe and people meet up at the cemetery, in there will they wanted a day for them. Cameron Schools are great and have great teachers.

In George Saunders article "My Writing Education: A Time Line" he talks about his college experience and his life. His professors and friends showed a lot of kindness to him. His teacher Doug was really nice to him and was always helping him in school. Toby becomes his best friend was also very kind to him. Doug and Toby were their the most during college for him they always helped George Saunders with his writing and to give him advise. One day Doug gets an unkind comment on one of his writing and he gives them a long beautiful, honest, courageous and totally generous talk. He tells them to never let anything bring them down and also keep moving. Saunders really likes that he gave them that talk he loves Doug for that. Doug also shows a lot of kindness when Saunders wife is 4 months pregnant and they are in South Dakota. He sends him a letter and tells him what is going on and promises him that he will continue working. He does the work through mail for a couple of weeks and then he get a call from Doug and he tells him to not worry about the class that he passed and to spend time with his wife that was really nice of him. After Saunders daughter is born he feels like he is starting to lose his magic in his writing and starts to work. He talks to Doug and he tells him to do his best and he will start to do better.

George Saunders

         George Saunders speech to the Syracuse University was very good and had a great meaning. His thesis was that we should live without regrets and have a kindness in your heart. What he regrets most in live is failures of kindness. His speech was very effective he gave us personal stories and examples on why we should be kinder. George Saunders gives us a small story about a girl names Ellen the new students in his 7th grade class. People used to always call her names because she chewed on her hair. He was actually pretty nice to her and never said an unkind word to her, he sometimes ever defended her. Saunders regrets not tell those people to stop calling her names and leave her alone. He is telling us to never miss an opportunity to be kinder to someone and stop being selfish. George Saunders said as we age, we become less selfish and more loving. That is so true, he says when you have kids, that will be a huge moment in your process of self-diminishment. You really don't care what happens to you as, long as it benefits them. He is saying when we grow up we view situations different. There is a cure for selfness and it starts by being nicer and doing good stuff for other people. He also says to always show kindness and avoid things that will lead you in the wrong direction.

Lying

    An intention lie can be a good or a bad thing it all depends in the situation. When I was little I was taught that lying was a bad thing and that it could hurt others including yourself if you lied. Growing up it just seemed easier to lie to stay out of trouble. There is some situations where lying is just the best thing to, sometimes we lie to protect the ones we love from something bad that could hurt them. We lie to people sometimes with the intention to prevent them from having their feelings hurt. Parents lie to there kids all the time about their marriage situations or if one parents loses their job to prevent their kids from worrying. Like lying to little kids telling them about Santa Clause and the tooth fairy brings joy to them but once they get older and find out the truth they get heartbroken for you lying to them. There is always a consequence for a lie. Lying can also be a very bad thing and hurt others if they find out the truth, Even the smallest lie can cause a big effect. Like lying to your parent to stay out of trouble is a bad thing because most of the time you parents find out the truth and you just get in from trouble. Sometimes its just better to be honest to the people you love so you don't hurt them. Lying is only good when you are doing it to protect other.

Popes Speech

   In the Pope's speech to congress he talks about immigration. He is saying we should appreciate and treat them the same. When he talks about immigration he brings up the Golden Rule. "Do unto others as you would have them do unto you." The golden rule reminds us of our responsibilities to protect and defend human life at every stage of its developments. He states we should not turn our backs on our neighbors instead we should be welcoming them. He also reminds them they were once foreigners and that there families came her for a better life. He says building a nation calls us to recognize that we must constantly relate to others, rejecting a mind set of hostility in order to adapt one of reciprocal subsidiarity in a consent effort to do our best. He wants everyone to be treating the same.
  In his speech he also talks about how family is important to America and how essential the family has been to the building of this country. Fundamental relationship are being called into question, as is the very basis of marriage and the family. He is saying no matter how the families are formed the only important and above all is the richness and the beauty of the family life. He also talks about the young he says for many of them a future filled with countless possibilities beckons, yet so many other seem disoriented and aimless, trapped in a hopeless maze of violent, abuse and despair. He says their problems are our problems and we need face them together and talk to them to seek effective solutions rather than bogged down in discussion.
   In The Washington Post article Pope Francis implores to accept immigrants as their own by Marc Fisher, Michelle and Steve Hendrix agree with what the pope. I agree with the pope also everything is true we should treat them the same and stop treating them bad.

Selena Quintanilla

Selena Quintanilla Perez, also know as the queen of tejano music was born on April 16, 1971 in Lake Jackson Texas. She was the youngest child of Marcell and Abraham Quintanilla. Selena grew up in Corpus Cristi which has a population of 442,600 making it the eighth most popular city in Texas. Corpus Cristi has a total area of 460.2 square miles which 305.6 square miles is covered in water, its a humid subtropical climate. Growing up there she started her singing career at the age of 9 Selena's dad started a band called Selena Y Los Dinos which was her brothers, sister and selena"s band. Their first album was released in 1984. Selena was 15 in 1986 that year she also won Female vocalist of the year. When Selena first started singing a lot of people didn't think she would make it in the music world because she was a girl. I believe that's what motivated Selena to try harder and become a better singer. She went through a lot and she had to learn how to talk Spanish because her dad wanted her to sing music related to her heritage. The band was actually turned down a lot because she was the lead singer of the band and Tejano bands are usually led my male singer. Selena released five studio albums, 3 live albums she was very successful. The song "Como La Flor" was one of Selena's most popular songs. That song helped her launched her singing career. She got married in April 1992 to Chris Perez. She died on March 31, 1995 she was killed by her best friend . She was a very successful singer and till this day people still listen to her music.

School So Far

       School so far is going really good. I've made a couple of friends in some of my classes. It has been a pretty good three weeks here. I don't get lost anymore so that's good. The first two weeks I kept getting lost and not knowing where to go especially the first week. I'm taking five classes this semester, all my classes are going pretty good so far. My algebra class is the hardest because its really hard to understand my teacher I have to pay really close attention to him so I am able to understand him. Going from high school to college has been very hard for me because high school was way easier and the teachers didn't expect much from you. College has also been very stressful for me I've had more homework these three weeks of school than I ever had in high school. I'm glad I got into a study skills class that will help me prepare myself for college more. My teacher Mrs. Childers is a very good teacher and is teaching us how to take good notes and learn how to use our money and tome wisely. That class will help me be successful in college.
